Perform audits on incoming material using hand gaging and visual techniques to determine conformance to specifications. Rectifies non-conforming material by rework, sorting and/or scrapping as directed. Use methods such as de-rusting, grinding, drilling, tapping, assembly and/or disassembly to rectify non-conforming material.

Ability to use basic and tools such as gaging, drills, taps, grinders and/or sanders to repair and/or clean parts and/or sub-assemblies. Able to read basic blueprints to determine tolerance of parts an/or sub-assemblies.

High school diploma/GED
Basic knowledge of quality control methods
Stable, steady, verifiable work history
Willing to undergo drug screen/background check
Position requires walking, stooping, bending, twisting, stair climbing, crouching and ability to carry/lift up to 40lbs. on a consistent basis throughout a complete shift.

Central Garden & Pet Company (NASDAQ:CENT) is a leading innovator, marketer and producer of quality branded products for the pet and lawn and garden supplies markets.   For the past several years, the company has manufactured and distributed wood pellets which are used in wood stoves for residential heating.  The Wood Pellets business unit is searching for a QC/QA Manager/Specialist.  The position reports to the General Manager.
 
The position is a Contractor/Consultant role, but may lead to a full-time position in future.

Key Responsibilities:

Help develop/write the QA/QC manual for the pellet business.
Train pellet mill employees on the QC/QA program.
Work with Plants and Co-packers to ensure quality product is produced and non-compliance issues resolved.
Ensure specifications are tested, results tracked, and corrective action taken.
Work with Pellet Fuels Institute and Twin Ports Testing (3rd Party Lab) to ensure PSI is in full compliance with all quality standards.
Track all quality data and provide monthly reports to business on customer complaints & claims paid, internal testing results, and 3rd party testing.
Develop a standard for a plant test lab, complete with testing procedures, necessary test equipment, technician standards, and employee training.
Perform regular audits of plants and co-packers to ensure compliance with QC/QA program.
Help drive quality improvements throughout the organization.
